If we could build our own schools? What would they look like?

Bob Sprankle created this unique and creative video for the BLC09 that is a must see! What would your schools look like if we did not know what schools looked like? Sounds funny, but think about it!

Here is the slideshare presentation from the BLC09 that Bob created.

Bob Sprankle raises an interesting point about what a new model for a school would look like. The answer is, there is no immediate answer. Even when pressed, he had trouble coming up with a clear vision. Having been taught in neat rows with the teacher's desk up front for 12 years, I immediately decided to try some new arrangements in order to facilitate learning, and shake things up. I moved my desk off to the side, and either have my student's desks in clusters of 2 or 3, facing forward; or in a "U" shape, facing the center. Most of my fellow teachers use groupings of 4 with students facing each other. I never liked this grouping because it's impossible for anyone, 4th grader or not, to work quietly at their desk while their friends are staring them in the face. For the elementary level at least, using technology in the classroom is always going to be more beneficial to student learning than distance learning at home via a computer. Most of my students don't even know how to enter a website address and lack the organizational skills required for independent learning. I'm sure distance learning could be beneficial in high school, especially for advanced placement classes where students are motivated and independent enough to do the work.

Also, I find 2nd Life to be very creepy. :)
