Snack Culture World- Thoughts of David Kirkpatrick - "Soon the audiences may be more than audiences. Movies may become more "participatory" and the ones who decide what movies will be made, which ones live or die, are us... the people. It will no longer be the movie makers who make the decisions on which movie is sent out to the big screen. "

Bob Sprankle did a podcast about David Kirkpatrick's talk at the BLC09.

I'm sure that would have been a worthwhile conference to attend and probably provided many ways to use Web 2.0 tools in education. I was happy to hear the presenter mention kids using digital cameras in order to express their creativity because we now have a digital photography class at our school for grades 3-5. Students ultimately put together an iMovie displaying their finished work, which is really impressive.

I don't however believe that every new piece of technology that comes along should be used in education. Twitter was mentioned in the presentation and is one site that I find extremely time-wasting. As educators, we're constantly trying to sort through the overabundance of information on the internet, in order to find those quality sites and applications hidden amongst the millions of subpar choices out there. Since its inception, I've found Twitter specifically to be one of the most unnecessary sites on the web. As a recent AT&T cell phone ad humorously showed teenagers lecturing their parents to stop overdoing the Twitter posts, their father was Tweeting that he was "sitting on the patio". Not every new piece of technology should be celebrated and Twitter is certainly one.
