Web 2.0 Very Cool!

I used SKYPE for the very first time last night and I can't believe how COOL it is! I love it! I am so excited for the class I am taking.. I am learning so much and reading so much.. my head is spinning! I can't believe I was talking to Jeff in China for Free!!! How exciting. I can't wait to try and use some of this technology in my class next trimester. I hope to collaborate with some of the students from Jeff's school. I think the kids would love it .. I know they love to blog on Moodle.. so I know this would be a really great way to show the kids what the web 2.0 world is really like! So fun! I am excited to continue in my class and read some of the books I just ordered on line. Today the kids in class were working on their PSA for either anti-violence or anti-smoking with the Media Smarts program. Some of them are bored by this project. They do not like to do the research. I think it would be a lot more interesting to them if we could talk to someone about this on SKYPE in the classroom. That might peak their interest! I will keep plugging on and hopefully little changes can happen.. slowly but hopefully something can change.

A few years ago I skyped an 8th graders grandmother in Bosnia... For the class to hear and see her, and the granddaughter and grandmother to speak in their native language was amazing.

My principal asked, "Did you call Bosnia during class?" Okay, I probably should have asked permission.

The kids couldn't believe it. Now my neighbors use it all the time to see their family that is far away... Let's keep spreading the wealth.

Cool! :) I know about the permission thing! Hmmm.. that will be one I work on. I am getting my Dad on it. He lives in Florida. He is excited to keep in touch with the kids. I think the possibilities are endless with this stuff! I just hate being so disappointed when I can't bring it all into the class.
